First off, Happy Birthday, Mum!!! Lots and lots of love xxxx
Next, the subject of this post: California Love.
I've lived in CA for nearly 13 years; half my life. And for all I say about Orange County driving me crazy (and it honest to God does), I also realize how fortunate I've been to live in such a gorgeous place. Coming back to Cali after two months up in Portland and WA felt odd, and it definitely reminded me of all the things that I don't like about it, the superficiality and superior attitude and extreme conservative bias, etc. But I also know that whatever route I choose with school or theatre or family, I'm going to be leaving California soon, and it's a rough realization.
I love the weather and the beaches and the palm trees.
I love being able to wear flip flops and tank tops about 10 months out of the year (although I miss cold winters).
I love the Mexican food, and especially Pedro's Tacos in San Juan.
I love being so close to LA and t.v. tapings and Universal Studios.
I love being so close to San Diego.
I love driving down the freeways with music blasting and the warm breeze blowing.
I love that it's 70 degrees outside right now (even though I'll usually deny it).
I love catching a glimpse of the ocean and driving along PCH.
I love bonfires and beach days and seeing surfers wondering around in Laguna or San Clemente.
I love being so close to Disneyland.
I love Angels games with friends on a sunny afternoon and baseball caps and Mexican beer and sitting on the patio in bathing suits and shorts.
I love knowing local beaches and hang outs and streets.
I love that nearly all of my friends from high school are still so close.
I love that my family used to live here too.
And can we say....In 'n' Out?
I'm going to have a really hard time leaving. And I know that it has to happen, and that that day will be soon. But for now, I'm just going to enjoy being here and soak in as much of it as I can, and spend as much time with my friends as possible.
-K
